Jim Hudson Lexus One of First Dealers in Area to offer Nitrogen for
Tires On
July 18th, Jim Hudson Lexus became a pilot dealership for
their organization to offer nitrogen as an alternative to
compressed
air for vehicle tires. “We
are confident in this proven technology, and are excited to be able to
provide our owners with the opportunity to improve their tire performance,” explains
Patrick Belfiglio, Service Manager. “Our customers expect us to
be at the forefront of automotive advancements, and that is why this
development
is important to us.”
Nitrogen has been used for tire inflation in the aviation industry and
automotive racing for many years. As the application of the technology
has improved, it has only recently become a viable option for local dealerships
to extend to the consumer. The consumer will benefit from nitrogen in
their tires due to the molecule’s resistance to changing with the
temperature, the greatest cause of tire pressure fluctuations. The more
consistent tire
pressure, the better the tire will perform, with implications for increased
tire wear and fuel economy.
In addition to the increased longevity, owners of later model vehicles
will be able to enjoy less frequent visits to the dealership to address “low
tire light” concerns. In preparation for the 2008 government mandate
that all passenger vehicles have sensors to warn drivers of low tire
pressure, manufacturers have been adding this feature to their cars for
the past
few years. While it is a tremendous safety feature to alert the driver
to a potential problem, it can also be an inconvenience when the pressure
change in the tire is due to a sharp temperature change outside.
“
It is not uncommon for a tire light warning to come on as a result of ambient
temperature,” notes Belfiglio. “However, you never want to
have this light ignored because the driver assumes that temperature is
the cause. Nitrogen will help us to determine that the tire light came
on for a more legitimate concern.”
Jim Hudson Lexus has selected NitroFill as their provider, since proper
training, administration and purity are essential to the success of the
program. They will be able to do a complete exchange of air for nitrogen
in any make or model for less than $50. The service will take approximately
45 minutes, including the time it takes to spruce up the car before it
is returned to the customer.
